A leading telecommunications services provider is looking for a full-time Fibre to the Premise (FTTP) Installations Technician in Guernsey. The Technician installs, tests and commissions residential and business fibre broadband services, together with associated wiring systems, WiFi routers and terminals, carries out fibre optic installation and supports duties and works at heights to install and repair services.
Main duties include installing and maintaining all FTTP services and CPE, including fusion/mechanical splicing and mechanical enclosures, carrying out site surveys and liaising with customers regarding new installations, interpretation of schematics, duct space, cable records and plant diagrams, installing and maintaining telephone lines using ATA technology, installing and maintaining the Piper Lifeline product within the FTTP environment, operating computer systems, installing underground and overhead fibre optic plant, managing weekly schedule for site surveys and installations and maintaining a customer focus that meets the company objectives.
The ideal client will be technically skilled or be able to demonstrate ability and willingness to obtain this level, be highly motivated, have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and good communication skills, have strong customer service skills and be able to work at heights, particularly regarding both ladder and telephone pole work, and able to occasionally work in adverse weather conditions.
An appreciation of the uses of PC Software and Hardware, an interest in current and future technology, an appreciation of the telecommunications market and customers, experience in fibre-optic cable handling and fusion splicing and experience in Customer Service or Operational environment are highly desirable, as is a qualification in computer science or related field, a qualification/experience in Electrical/Electronic engineering, a qualification in any other type of engineering or experience in Customer Service or Operational environment.
Due to the nature of this position, the postholder must hold a satisfactory Basic Police Disclosure and a current category B driving licence.
