The Island of Guernsey, the 2nd largest of the Channel
Islands, lies in the bay of St. Malo, just 30 miles west of the
Normandy coast of France, and some 75 miles from the south coast of
Britain. The Bailiwick of Guernsey comprises the islands of
Guernsey, Alderney, Sark and Herm, together with several smaller
islands.
The island is approximately 24 square miles (63 sq. kilometres)
in area, with more than 20 beaches and a population of about
65,000. Guernsey offers superb quality of life, with fantastic
scenery, beautiful walks and cycle routes and a wealth of things to
do. Islanders are extremely proud of their pretty hillside town,
which is built around the harbour and cries out to be explored. The
environment is fresh and healthy.
Sport is an important part of life here - everything from sailing
to squash. This helps to balance a lifestyle in which the
temptation to eat out is fuelled by the presence of all manner of
restaurants, from the sophisticated to the casual.
The other Channel Islands are only a short boat or plane trip away, as is France - Dinard is only 20 minutes away by air or you can take the car on the fast ferry to St. Malo.
